This show as a whole and the combined talents of the artists performing it are dazzling. Catherine Robert – La Terrasse (Avignon 2018)
It all begins with a voice, in the dark.
A lullaby helping us face the shadows.
Then comes another voice, spoken this time.
The voice of a little girl who dreams of becoming a cow-boy. A red cow-boy.
And finally the bodies will appear, another way to face our fears.
That’s the whole point of this show: three acrobatic performers, an operatic singer and a pianist who – together – decide to “carry the voice”.
Being heard, and facing one’s fears. And then sharing that necessary boldness with the audience.
It’s a journey to the end of the night ending in full lights, a wide-open window facing the world.
Strach is the very essence of a circus show: the enchantment of prowesses, the tension of empathy, the fear that comes from taking risks. But Strach is, above all, an intense and fascinating show that must be seen.
Strach A fear song is a real gem. Last summer, the Royal Festival’s audience was left awestruck by this circus-opera. Standing ovations and all-over delight made us want to give those who have yet to discover it the chance to join the many fans of this show, a mix of circus and opera – with human warmth and boldness.
